Muscle relaxing anti-wrinkle injections are the most popular cosmetic procedure performed. Botox® which produce a type of protein which temporarily relaxes muscles to prevent wrinkles from forming. They have been used medically for over 30 years. Since the late 1980s, it has been successfully used for anti-aging treatments, and has been proven to be extremely safe when administered by a trained professional. Most commonly used in the upper face to relax wrinkles between the eyebrows, on the forehead and around the eyes, but can be used in other areas such as the chin, nose, cheeks, jawline and neck. These treatments also work as a preventative measure. If the skin is unable to crease, wrinkles are not able to develop.

The treatment works only on the specific muscles injected, leaving surrounding muscles to function as usual maintaining normal facial expression. The effects are apparent within a few days and the results last for 3 to 6 months.

Often used in the upper part of the face (forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines) but can also be used in other areas such as the chin, neck and around the lips. It can reduce enlarged masseter muscles leading to a slimming of the face, treat a gummy smile and lift the tip of the nose. It can also be used to treat excessive sweating of the armpits, forehead, palms and soles.

Botox is not immediate. It takes around 7-14 days for it to take effect.
